Meet stylist Tanya Hodgson
A graduate from Three Birds Renovations
"Hello, Tanya here from Whangarei in the Winterless North. My husband and I have 3 children and two adorable ragdoll cats.
We came across this home after establishing a great rapport with a local real estate agent. When he showed us this property we came away with a really positive feeling from the place. It felt warm. We could see the potential on how to transform it into a home that worked for us."
How would you describe your style?
"A few years ago we lived in a coastal Queensland town and it had a huge impact on me. So the style I was looking to achieve was one that took aspects from that relaxed coastal vibe, and one that still paid tribute to the character features of this house."

What flooring did you go with?
"For our flooring we went will Harrisons Wallacetown loop pile SDN carpet for the bedrooms. The reason we decided upon this carpet was because it complimented the blonded hardwood floors perfectly and also offered a coastal textual element. It’s also a hardy type carpet which is perfect for our family and pets."
What window coverings have you opted for?
"We have used Harrisons for our curtain requirements at our previous home and absolutely love the selection on offer and the service provided. We have now since, these shots had our local Harrisons curtain specialist, Olivia, come to visit. She was able to understand the vision. We decided on a double track, using Galaxy in white for the rear track and a natural linen look Stratford Dusk sheer in front."

Tell us about your gorgeous pink paint!
"Throughout the house we chose Resene Alabaster because it added the right amount of warmth. We decided to go a little bold with the dusky pink Resene Paper Doll feature wall in the master bedroom and ensuite door because it tied in perfectly with a Jen Sievers artwork we’d chosen for our bedroom. The landscape painting is of Karikari peninsula which is where we went on our first date 22 years ago, so it means a lot to us.
In the main bathroom I wanted something that added some extra warmth to the space and Resene’s Cashmere was our pick."

What's your styling ethos and any advice on renos?
"I found that when styling our home I really needed to consider whether the choices worked for everyone who lives in the space. Compromise was inevitable not only with the styling but also with budget.
It is also really nice to include a couple of key pieces like artworks or a quality rug to guide the tone and feel of a space. And I also think it’s really important to include items which have special meaning to you as a family!"
