Pets are our best friends, but sometimes they leave unwanted gifts. Whether the stain is fresh or set in, our range of cleaning products can help restore your carpet to its just-bought freshness. Read our guide on how to clean pet stains from wool carpets for everything you need to know.

Fresh Stains

When cleaning up pet messes on wool carpets, the most important thing is to deal with them as quickly as possible. Get rid of any solid matter and blot the stain with paper towels to pick up as much liquid as possible. Press firmly into the carpet to do this, but DO NOT wipe the stain, as you’ll risk pushing it further into the carpet fibre, making it much harder to remove.

Once you have lifted as much of the stain as you can from the carpet, rinse the stained area with a small amount of cold water mixed with a cleaning solution (you can use wool-friendly laundry detergent mixed with a small amount of white vinegar or check out our range of cleaning products in NZ).

Then, soak up the liquid with paper towels and repeat this process until the stain is completely lifted. When the carpet is dry, vacuum over it a few times to bring the texture back to its original state.

Set-in Stains

You might only notice a stain after some time; unfortunately, pet accidents that have dried can be a lot more stubborn and difficult to remove. Removing an old stain begins the same way as a fresh stain – gently flushing the affected area with water and soaking it up until it has absorbed as much as possible. Adding white vinegar to the water can also help to lift the stain.

While the stain is still damp, sprinkle the area with baking soda and leave it for a few hours until it is completely dry. Once dry, vacuum up all the baking soda, and the stain should be lightened.

Vinegar and baking soda are also great deodorisers, so you won’t be left with any nasty, lingering odour.

If home methods fail to work, or you have extensive staining on your carpet, using a wet vac and chemical solution, such as the Karcher SE 5.100 Carpet Cleaner and Karcher Carpet Cleaner Liquid detergent, is likely the best way to get the job done. The machine forcefully flushes water with the cleaning solution into the carpet, deep cleaning it while vacuuming out the dirty water.
